About Njála
Born in 2020, Njála is an Aussiedoodle - with a little bit extra mixed in, so just your typical All-American dog.
Currently living in Berwyn Heights, MD, USA, she spends her time playing in the yard with her friends, human and canine. Occasionally Njála leaves the city to spend a day or two at a friend's farm in Virginia.
Njála has been a busy girl, attending classes at Your Dog's Friend in Rockville, MD.
In 2022 Njála received Trick Novice titles from AKC (American Kennel Club) and DMWYD (Do More With Your Dog) and AKC CGC (Canine Good Citizen), CGCA (Canine Good Citizen Advanced), and since June 2023 AKC THDN (Therapy Dog Novice) by volunteering for Fidos for Freedom in Laurel, MD.
October 2023 Njála went on her biggest adventure yet and moved to Austria. Mostly spending her time in her new yard in Waldviertel, NÖ, and occasionally visiting the big city, Vienna.
Icelandic female form of Njáll. This name is an Anglicization of the Gaelic "Néill". The Gaelic name was adopted by the Vikings and taken to Iceland as Njáll. The Gaelic name is of uncertain meaning. Some theories: (1) Old Irish nél = 'cloud', (2) Old Irish niadh = 'champion', (3) Old Irish = 'passionate', (4) Celtic/Irish = 'warrior'.
About Barbara Frasl
Born and raised in Austria, she currently lives with her canine companion Njála in the United States.
Originally from Vienna, she studied Applied Geosciences at the Montanuniversität in Leoben. Then moved to Canberra, Australia to do a PhD in Geochemistry. Spent a couple of years back in Austria working at the Conrad Observatory. Being hired as a Lab Manager for the NASA MNGRL (Marshall Noble Gas Research Lab, aka MooNGiRL) took her to Huntsville, AL in the United States until the lab was relocated to Greenbelt, MD, now known as Mid-atlantic Noble Gas Lab.
Since October 2023 she is back in Austria.
